Installation of braces

Installation of braces

You can achieve straight teeth, a beautiful smile and a correct bite if you install braces. This orthodontic construction, consisting of a metal arch with plates attached to it, allows you to correct the incorrect position of the teeth. Depending on the material used for the manufacture of plates, there are such varieties as:

  • metal braces (a classic and affordable option, the alloy can consist of various metals, even with the addition of gold or titanium);
  • ceramic braces (unlike metal braces, they are less noticeable on the teeth, since ceramics are chosen to match the enamel color, and are less allergenic, but their cost is slightly higher);
  • sapphire braces (plates are made of artificially grown sapphires, they are translucent and almost invisible, they are easy to care for, the cost of such systems is high);
  • plastic braces (fragile plate material in comparison with others, can be painted in any color).

The choice of this or that material depends on the preferences and capabilities of the patient.

Why you need to install braces

Today, the installation of braces is the most effective way to align the dentition. This avoids the following complications:

  • rapid abrasion of the enamel;
  • regular caries, gum disease;
  • premature loss of teeth and other pathologies.

Types of braces

There are several types of bite correction designs. Their selection is carried out in conjunction with an orthodontist for each patient, depending on the complexity of the problem and the individual characteristics of the structure of the jaw.

Ligature

These are classic systems, with additional fixing rubber bands, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the system and get a relatively quick result. With the help of ligature structures in orthodontics, the most difficult violations are eliminated.

Self-ligating

In this version, there are no elastic bands-ligatures, and their inclination is regulated with the help of clips on their own. Such systems significantly reduce the load on the enamel, and also take up much less space in the mouth. But their cost is more expensive in comparison with ligature.

Transparent

This group includes those systems where, in addition to metal, other materials are used for the manufacture of plates, such as: plastic, ceramics, sapphire. These designs look more attractive and discreet. Their price depends on the material.

Invisible (aligners)

This is a modern analogue of the classic leveling systems, they are a transparent removable mouthguard, which is easy to care for and easy to wear. The main advantage of this method of teeth alignment is that the device is invisible during a conversation and does not violate the aesthetics of a smile. But with the help of aligners, only simple problems can be eliminated.

Lingual braces

This type of construction has appeared recently, but many patients have already fallen in love with it. The installation of the bracket system is hidden here, on the inner side of the dentition. This allows you to maintain the appearance, attractiveness of a smile, which is very important for people, for example, in public professions. The first time after installation, minor speech defects may be observed, but within two weeks they disappear.

Braces Damon Q and Damon Clear

This is one of the most reliable and effective ligature-free orthodontic structures. Instead of rubber bands, small clasps are used here, which significantly reduces the size of the entire structure, making it more comfortable to wear.

Damon Q systems are made of metal, they are more visible on the teeth, while Damon Clear is a design with almost invisible ceramic plates.

Braces installation process

Before installing braces, you need to perform a number of preparatory steps:

  • cure caries, eliminate all inflammatory processes;
  • make a professional cleaning by removing plaque and tartar;
  • to conduct x-rays, three-dimensional tomography for the manufacture of the system.

Contraindications

Contraindications include the following cases:

  • the patient has jaw abnormalities;
  • periodontium (acute stage);
  • if the bone tissue is severely destroyed;
  • tartar;
  • teeth that have not erupted;
  • severe diseases of internal organs.

The installation process itself includes several stages:

  • The dentist conducts a control check of the condition of the teeth, enamel.
  • To provide access to all the teeth, the patient is put on a special mouth dilator, and the tooth surface is treated with a restorative compound, the task of which is to “calm down” the enamel before a complex procedure.
  • Special glue is applied to the surface of the teeth and locks are fixed.
  • A few minutes later, a metal arc is threaded through the locks, it is fixed with rubber bands or clasps.
  • An orthodontic ring is installed on the abutment teeth.

As a rule, braces are first placed on the upper jaw and then on the lower.

Recommendations for wearing braces

Good oral hygiene is essential. First of all, this is brushing your teeth after each meal with a special brush with a V-shaped cut, as well as the use of dental floss and brushes to thoroughly clean the structure.

During the entire correction period, you should stop eating nuts, seeds, and other solid foods. Avoid chewing butterscotch, chewing gum. Avoid eating frozen or too hot foods.
